The trip that started it all! Sewing with the beautiful girls of Romania.
It's sweet faces like this that keep me coming back year after year.
These kids have stolen my heart. They keep me wanting to continue developing my shop, processes and product line.
Can't wait to watch him grow up.
I am privileged to have known some of these young men since they were in grade school.

Close to home and around the world

In 2009 I took my first trip to visit Romanian orphanages. I fell in love with the kids and the country.

I couldn't wait to get back the second year. In 2010 I went for 16 days (my youngest was only 2!) and stayed for one week at a girls transition house for kids who had "graduated" from the orphanage. I asked the director what would be helpful for me to bring with me and she suggested a sewing project for the girls. They had sewing machines and fabric but no staff really knew how to sew. One problem - neither did I! My mom often sewed when I was growing up but I had absolutely no interest in sitting still that long.

For my trip to Romania, my mother in law taught me to do a quick and easy tote bag without a lining. To my surprise I loved sewing! I had such fun with the girls at the house that when I got home from Romania I picked up an inexpensive sewing machine and started making totes and selling on Etsy. I thought it would just be a hobby. I had 3 little ones at home at the time and hoped just to do a little something on the side to raise money for my next trip to Romania. I was hooked and have ended up going six times now.

My hobby turned into a business in 2010 and I have been able to use the profits to support my love of the children in a country far away.
